Top Ten Reasons for VARs to Embrace Defrag Diskeeper

1. Service contracts are a hidden money pit.

VARs lose money on support calls, many of which are caused by fragmentation related performance issues. These include crashes and system hangs/freezes; slow boot times and boot failures; file corruption and data loss; errors in programs; cash issues, and hard drive failures.
 
2.  A defragmenter is the most inexpensive performance enhancement you can make—particularly when clients won’t splurge on hardware upgrades.
 
3. Defragmenting reduces the amount of maintenance time required on machines. Long anti-virus scans and back ups by way of example, waste time, patience and system overhead.  Defragmenting cuts both nearly in half by consolidating files into one location. One file = one scan. One thousand fragmented files = one thousand separate scans. The same applies to back ups.

4. Heavy fragmentation thrashes drives. Defragmenting provides more “up time” and saves the computer from excessive drive head activity, extending hardware life another 1 – 3 years.
 
5. Defragmenting busy file/SQL/Exchange servers increases network traffic speeds by freeing up I/O bottlenecks.

Server virtualization may reduce the number of physical systems for more efficient CPU utilization; but consolidating five servers all into one means the disk drive will be working overtime with five times the volume of traffic. Routine defragmentation of virtual servers ensures optimal performance.
 
7. Boot time can be markedly speeded up by defragmentation of the MFT file.
 
8. Load times for Office files (Word, Excel, Outlook) can show a hefty return in performance after defragmenting.
 
9. Web browsing can be speeded up 2 – 3 times by defragmenting the Internet cache.
 
10.  The disk drive is the slowest of the three main components of a computer: the CPU, memory and disk. Even with the fastest CPU available—system performance will still be negatively affected by fragmentation as a computer is only as fast as its slowest component. And the disk drive is that component. Defragmenting is thus essential on all computers
