SDIS’s most significant challenge has been the prevention and management of the region’s growing problem of devastating forest fires.  A Motorola fixed video surveillance solution was installed on 19 towers located throughout the region, all of which were connected using links that support speeds up to 150 Mbps. The video surveillance system captures and transmits 400 panoramic images each minute and automatically recognizes smoke within just three minutes after the start of a fire.
