A new report from Jakarta, Indonesia released in October, 2014 states that more than 30 million Indonesians use the Opera Mini mobile browser when accessing the World Wide Web, according to Opera Software’s "State of the Mobile Web" report released today.

It would seem that more and more Indonesians search the web on their mobile phones, and Opera Mini is claimed to be the fastest mobile browser in the market. With over 30 million monthly active users of Opera Mini in the country, whilst the population of Jakarta is 10 Million.

The average user  profile is young, tech savvy and heavy users of the internet aged 24 years old. 4 out of 10 users are still at school or university. 81% told Opera they access the internet on their phones  several times a day. When online, they search the web, connect on social media or read the news.

Opera Mini users are also interested in new technologies. 90% said speed is one of the top features they look for in a browser.

Android on the rise

Android is the fastest growing platform for Opera Mini in Indonesia. The number of Opera Mini users on Android phones grew by 156% between July 2013 and July 2014. During the same period, Opera Mini iOS users grew by 71%, followed by BlackBerry with 54%.

Overall, smartphone penetration among Opera Mini users jumped from 10% to 26%, confirming that consumers increasingly discard feature phones for smartphones.

Used by more than 250 million people around the world, Opera Mini is a browser app for nearly any mobile phone. It uses compression technology to shrink data by as much as 90 percent, getting users their content faster and saving operators bandwidth.

Indonesia is home to the second largest Opera Mini community in the world after India. In Indonesia, Opera works with local OEMs and mobile network operators to help them provide high-quality browsing experience across their device portfolio.

The State of the Mobile Web report is based on aggregated information from Opera's servers and offers a snapshot of the browsing behavior of users of Opera Mini between July 2013 and July 2014.
